Making the first marks on a blank canvas gives me an ecstatic sense of freedom. The act is a vital, primal connection, a transfer of raw energy. From the limitlessness of the initial burst, the work progresses and becomes more cerebral. The first spontaneous applications of paint create a dynamic from which rhythmic placement of elements - color, texture, shapes, and glyphs -
begin to emerge. As the visual interplays become more complex, each mark requires more deliberate consideration.
